Saturday, April 6: Let’s Add a Little Hope to This Brownsville Park!
Would you like to give back to a New York City community in need this Saturday?
Join us on Saturday, April 6th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. to help make a park in Brownsville safer and more attractive for our children and for the girls in our Young Women Rock! Program.
Betsy Head Park & Play Center
On Thomas S Boyland Street (Between Dumont and Livonia Avenues)
Betsy Head Memorial Playground, located in Brownsville, Brooklyn, has been a presence in the neighborhood for almost 100 years. Brownsville is one of the most under-served neighborhoods in New York City, and it could really use your support! The area has the highest rates of youth from ages 7 – 21 living in poverty, the highest rates of teenage pregnancy amongst girls ages 15 – 19, and unfortunately, also has a low number of community-based youth development and arts organizations working in the region. (Data from The Center for the Study of Brooklyn).
Wear your comfy, painting clothes! Tasks for volunteers could include: cleaning the park, planting, painting benches and fences, and retouching a simple mural with paint brush. All supplies provided.
A big thank you to Xmental INC., Brownsville Partnership, Brownsville Community Justice Center, Teach For America and Community Solutions for organizing this community service day and for helping to ensure our children have a safe place to enjoy their childhood.
