Young Women Rock! to Operate on Saturdays in Brooklyn and the Bronx This September
The Young Women Rock! mentorship and leadership program targeting girls ages 14 – 18 years of age in Brownsville, Brooklyn and in the South Bronx will operate on Saturday afternoons this Fall. We are currently recruiting female mentees (ages 14 – 18) and female, college-educated mentors (ages 21 – 35) for the Fall 2015-Spring 2016 cycle. Eligible participants (mentees) must live in either Brooklyn (with easy access to Brownsville) or the South Bronx.
Young Women Rock! has the mission to empower girls through mentorship, building their self-confidence and challenging them to discover and fulfill their potential.
YWR! is dedicated to strengthening the lives and communities of young women in under-served neighborhoods through a sustainable curriculum-based, group and one-on-one mentorship program. The philosophy behind the YWR! curriculum is to empower young women by having them think critically about themselves, their identity and their goals, while breaking down negative messages fed to them by society and the media. The curriculum covers topics from self-esteem and personal identity to sexual health, future options and global citizenship.
As a mentee, you join an amazing sisterhood that exists long after the program is finished. You build a relationship with your mentor and with the group. You’ll leave the program identifying as a leader, being self-confident, feeling empowered to achieve your dreams and… with a group of new friends.
